They say necessity is the mother of invention and that’s just how this newborn pants idea came to be. A few weeks back, our associate photographer Tessa was scheduled to photograph a sweet baby boy. Now boys in particular can be a little tricky to pose given the need to hide a few additional “pieces” and Tessa’s supply of boy pants was running a little sparse. Why is it that boy props are so hard to come by anyhow? So Tessa sat thinking “what’s a girl to do?” when inspiration hit. You see, when you’re a mother to three, your brain is just wired a little differently than others. You’re forced to learn to MacGyver in a pinch; fashioning bathing suits out of T-Shirts and hair clips, underwear from a shower cap or flip flops from duct tape (true story). One thing a mom of three has in abundance is a butt tonne of too small clothing. Tights in particular, if you’ve been blessed with girls. And so, this two minute newborn pants project took to life in the closet of Tessa’s youngest child. When she brought this little trick to me in the studio I just couldn’t help but to share it with you all!
The instructions are so simple, all you need is a few pictorals to send you on your way. You will literally have a new pair of newborn pants in less time than it takes to read this post!
New tights for your prop collection. Incidentally, I bought these tights for 97 cents on sale at the GAP. SCORE! You could also consider buying white tights and custom dying them to match your favourite blanket. Plus, since tights have an infinite amount of stretch, these tights will happily fit many sizes of babe.
It’s funny how such a simple idea can really blow your mind. Why didn’t I think of that?!
